Holy PallyHealing of the Blood Knights, in 2 parts

I wrote this for my other guild on my alternate personality: Griefmonger. Found it's been a great success for unsure Pallys in training, so I brought it a cross for you guys to see.


Block one: THE BLOOD KNIGHT BASICS

Holy Spec Pally Healing spell list:

1. Holy Light: Biggest Heal (Rank 11 frequently over 5.5k on tanks non-crit). Biggest mana cost (Rank 11 almost 1k mana). Longest cast at 2.5sec first cast, 2sec after with talent. And of course has biggest agro gain. Mana regain on crit I see is about 590.

2. Flash of Light: Normal Heal (Rank 5 hit between 1.1k and 1.5k non-crit). Cheapest mana cost (Rank 5 is around 190 mana). Cast time is 1.5 sec Mana back from crit is 108.

3. Holy Shock: About same as Flash of Light at Rank 5, Mana cost for Rank 5 is 435 mana. It’s instant cast but has a 15sec cool down. Has about the same agro as Flash of Light. Not sure on Mana back from crit; believe its near 170 mana.


Holy Spec Talent must haves:

Healing Light: Improves amount healed. That said it all….

Illumination: 100% chance to get 60% mana back on a healing spell crit; must have all 5 point or you can’t get Divine Favor or Holy Shock. Since high end healing plate forgoes spirit for spell crit, this is how a paladin maintains mana efficiency.

Divine Favor: This guaranties a Healing spell crit; ergo you get mana back!

Holy Power: Increases all Healing spell’s crit chance. See illumination if you need to know why it’s good…

Holy Shock: 3rd heal of a Holy paladin. Instant cast allows for spot healing with out taking time off from healing main tank.

Other Talents that are nice:

Sanctified Light: Increases crit chance of Holy Light by a further 6%; again see Illumination if still confused by benefits.

Divine Intellect/Holy Guidance: These 2 are a pair; one increases overall intellect and the other give bonus healing power for every point of intellect. You’d be dumb to take just one.

Improved blessing of wisdom: This increases guarantied mana regen; and when healing this is always good no matter what.

Light’s Grace: Speeds up consecutive casting of Holy Light. This allows for ease of shifting heals to other party members and back to main tank.

Divine Illumination: 50% mana reduction for 15 sec; and from what I’ve seen you still get full mana returns from spell casting. You actually can gain mana while this is active. Just spam Flash heals 10 times in that time

Block Two: FINESSING THE POWER GIVEN TO A BLOOD KNIGHT.

5 Man Instance Running:

With lower gear, healing power about 1k, I found Flash of Light would average around 1500 a hit non-crit. This worked well for healing any instance non-heroic. Not only is it fast and mana cheap, it’s also low agro, so I start spamming and don’t stop till mobs are down. This allows me to hit off targets with Holy Shock for about 1k heals between heals on main tank with out fear of tank loss. Also if needed, I just switch targets and flash heal another between healings on the tank.

If tank takes a big hit I cast the Holy Shock on him, then cast Divine Favor (since all healing stops for 3sec after Holy Shock, perfect time to hit this ability), and then another Flash of Light (or Holy Light if he’s getting under 50%) for a guarantied crit! This usually tops tank off and I can go back to my Flash of Light spamming.

If the tank hits 50% switch to one Rank 11 Holy Light cast to get him back up to full; then you can start the Flash of Light spamming again.


Self taught Kara experience (also good for Heroics):

The tactic above works well in Kara as long as I’m not a main healer. I keep the spamming up on tanks (helps between big heals from priest and druids) and allows me to switch targets quickly to spot heal the DPS’rs that might have taken a hit.

Down side is when doing Kara with just one other Healer (aka off tank healer). I found I had to concentrate on my tank, and Holy light had to come out. This takes its toll on mana real quick if not careful. Also switching to Flash Heal for a DPS class and back usually puts my tank in danger of dying before my next Holy Light goes off. (This was with the 2.5 sec cast time and older gear)

Finally I got my healing over 1300 and found my average non-crit Flash Heal actually drops to barely 1100. Why this is I do not know. So I changed my armor gearing and am trying to get my crit chance up over my healing bonus now. This allows for longer mana lasting as well, as explained above.


Having respected again to try affective Holy Light spamming in last Kara run; I’ve learned to rely on certain combo’s to increase mana lasting power and tank ease of healing. Also at this time my Holy spells have over 22% chance to crit when buffed, and Holy Light comes in at 28% (this is vital when using Holy Light as a regular spell)

Tricks of the Trade

1 If tank takes constant hard damage. Spam rank 6 Holy Light, unless tank is barely alive. Rank 6, at a minimum, still hits for about 1300 (about the same as Flash of Light) and quite frequently crits for over 3500. Cost is about 660, and get close to 580 mana back when a crit goes off.

2 If tank is getting hit hard, use trinket or 41 point holy talent before switching to Holy Light rank 11. You actually still get full mana back even though cost is half mana, so you can actually regen some mana this way for 15 sec.

3 In trash mob clearing, use the 50% trinket and spam Flash Heal to regen mana so you’re ready for next pull with out drink down time.

4 With the Lights Grace talent you can cast Flash of Light 2 to 3 times on DPS class targets and still switch back to your tank with the 2sec cast time on your Holy Light.

5 If you wait and open with Holy light on tank, then switch to spamming him with Flash of Light till the last sec and back to Holy Light, you can effectively prolong your healing power on your tank during a boss fight and keep the quick casting time up.

6 If you have to use a full Rank 11 Holy Light cast, while your 50% mana cost spell/trinkets are still cooling down, blow your Devine Favor before casting so you’re guarantied to get 60% of it’s cast back.

7 Pally bubble is your friend, don’t be afraid to use it. Don’t worry the tank about a mob hitting you. Pally has uber armor compared to everyone else that’s not tanking. Take a few hits so no one else has to. Then bubble and blow a Lok rock. Mob usually returns to tank on its own. Only bother the Tanks if your bubble is on cool down.

8 Use your Hammer of Justice affectively. You can stun your tank’s mob so you can get a Heal off if their health is low, or stop a freed mob while your hunter/priest/mage regains control. Or so it leaves you alone so you can heal yourself.

9 Lay of Hands has only one use in a raid. It’s free mana to yourself if you run out and your pot’s are still on cool down. Immediately after blowing it (if you’ve not already done so) use your 50% spell reduction, trinkets, or Devine Favor to get the most out of your new mana.

Finally, because I'm lazy and just pulled it strate across, I have to add that the trinket I was using is not a 50% mana reduction like I had thought, but actually 22mana reduction for 15sec with a min cooldown. Still, any mana you can save makes you that much more efficient.

Also, Since I've ran Kara so many times in my other guild; I've now also got a good set of tanking gear. Because of this I now trade myself out as a secondary tank for our runs if we're short. So I had to adjust my skill tree abit to help out. this hybrid skill of 40\21\0 has worked really well, and still allowed me to be one of our guilds lead healing Pallies with no respecing every time I put on my tanking gear.
