Alright, for those of you out there wanting to start a Rogue or those of you who have a Rogue and are having trouble deciding what weapons to use/train here's a breakdown for you.
Most Rogues I know/have read about use Sinister Strike (hereafter refered to as SS) as their bread and butter attack. SS is fast, and with 2 talent points dedicated to Improved Sinister Strike you drop the energy cost associated with it by 10. Also most Rogues I know use Evicerate very often as a finishing move as it does a considerable amount of damage and is also low in energy cost. If this is your route for skills then you want to find the highest MIN/MAX Damage weapon you can get your hands on. Ignore DPS and weapon speed as it will not help you here.
The way it works is that SS and Evicerate both go off the damage delt at the time of the strike to determine how much damage you do for that skill/attack. So at my current level I believe that my SS adds around 33 damage to an attack. I am wielding a Skullcrusher Mace of the Monkey which tops out at 99 damage. On any particular attack when I use SS It will deal up to 99+33 points of damage on that attack. Now if I were using a similar DPS dagger that is faster but only maxes at say 45 damage, that same SS would only max out at 45+33 damage which is considerably lower when you figure that you need 5 of them to max out your combo points before you key your finishing move. Evicerate works on the same principle.
Now if you are a Assassinate, Backstab, Gouge Rogue. You want a dagger...because you have to use a dagger. The same principle applies here because both Assassinate and Backstab again use the actual damage of the strike to determine damage output. But there is an option for those of you with the will to make it happen (I personally have not gone through the trouble of doing this yet.) You can wield your favorite daggers and keep on hand a high damage output sword or mace and swap them out using macros. Therefore you would Sneak -> Assassinate -> wait for energy -> Gouge -> Backstab -> Macro to switch to swords or maces -> finish out combat using your swords or maces and SS & Evicerate. This is a little more complicated stlye of combat for those of you who want to maximize every second of every combat. Would I do this? Not personally, but many Rogues out there do. Hopefully someone with more experience in Macros can post something about how to use them efficiently.
In the end, your play style is going to dictate which weapons you use. At level 60 the best weapon in the game IMO, is Teebu's Blazing Longsword

at 96-172 damage and a DPS of 47.2 this thing is awesome. There isn't a dagger or mace that can match this damage. But in general at 60th level most weapons (with this exception) are around 45 DPS.
I realize I didn't go into a bunch more finishing moves and skills but these are the two most common builds for Rogues so I thought I would just concentrate on them. Hope this helps to clear and confusion about what to wield as a Rogue. Good luck and happy hunting.
