Maiden (Optional)
www.wowwiki.com/Maiden
Maiden is the first boss that only requires a single tank, and is therefore considerably easier than other bosses in that it requires far less group coordination.
She has 3 abilities
Holy Fire: a holy damage spell that does substantial initial damage and significant damage per tic. It also can jump to another player if party members are too close together. It can be cleansed and dispelled by paladins and priests respectively, and should be done so as quickly as possible to make it easy for the healers to deal with.
Repentance: A mass sleep effect that puts the whole party to sleep for 12 seconds. Taking damage can awaken players. More on this in a minute.
Consecrate: A giant aoe holy effect that does constant damage to all within range of Maiden. It is fired off about every 3 seconds and, simply put, cannot be avoided by melee classes.
An ideal group has only 1 tank, 2 main healers, an offhealer/cleaner, and 6 ranged dps. This minimizes damage from Consecrate, and gives you enough options for cleaning Holy Fire such that damage from that effect shouldn’t be an issue either. This isn’t to say melee classes are useless, it will just put more strain on the healers. Holy Protection Potions are extremely useful to mitigate damage from Consecrate, and should be used by all melee classes.
To start the encounter, group members should position themselves spread out around the outside wall of Maiden’s circular room. Healers should be on opposite sides to ensure coverage of the entire room for cleansing, but all dps can be wherever they like. The tank and melee should start at the entrance to the room. When the tank runs in, he should tank Maiden EXACTLY where she stands. This ensures that her Consecrate will only go as far as the second black step of the platform she’s on. All other raid members should run in towards the boss, and stop between the inner ring of pillars and the first step of Maiden’s platform. This will put dps in range of the boss, put all raid members in range of the healers and cleaners, and keep them OUT of range of the Consecrate.
The only other trick to Maiden is having the tank survive through Repentance. The easiest way to do this is select one healer (ideally a priest or druid) to be the main tank healer. During Repentance, the tank will drag Maiden toward the main healer until the healer takes damage from Consecrate, wakes up, and is able to heal again. Then the tank repositions Maiden in the center of her platform and continues the fight. DPS will wake up when repentance is over, and the fight continues as normal until Maiden is dead.
