There are several UI (user interface) mods that I, many other Knights, and the general WoW public find very useful. These are general mods; for class specific help, look in your class subsection, accessible from the main page. Also, this is just a list of mods I personally use, if you have others people should be aware of, please add to the thread.
Economy/interface mods:
Cartographer: keeps track of collectibles on the world map so you can record locations of mines, herbs, chests, fish, etc. Additionally, whenever you pick up a location, it sends it to anyone else in the guild with cartographer enabled, so you can expand you locations without having to visit them personally. Useful for those who use harvesting as a means of income.
Auctioneer: these days it’s officially an “outdated” mod, but if you ask WoW to load outdated add ons, it still functions just fine. It allows you to “remember” prices of items, so if you have 20 stacks of wool cloth for example, you only have to enter the price once, then it will be saved, and you can just drag, drop, and hit “post auction”. Speeds things up if you play the Auction House a lot.
Atlas/AtlasLoot/Atlasloot enchanced: One major drawback of the wow map system is the total lack of instance maps. Atlas is a compilation of all instances in WoW which you can select from outside or inside the instance. Atlasloot adds loot tables for bosses in instances, so you can survey what instances would most ebenfit you in terms of what drops you can get for your toon.
CTMod: an addon package that has a variety of functions. The three most important are adding action bars to the interface, so instead of one bar, you can have up to 8. Further, it allows you to move ALL bars around: action, pet, experience, bags, character, reputation, and buffs. So you can make things look just how you want, and put all your action bars in one place rather than have some on the left, some on the right, and some on the bottom. The second important function it has is the mail system. It allows you to “open all” or “open selected” so you can just hit one button and collect all your AH takings rather than opening each letter individually and taking the money/item. It does not auto-open COD items, so you won’t get cheated out of money by scam artists. It also adds a “mass mail” function to the mailbox, so you can send the character up to 21 items with one button rather than entering the name for every item you wish to send. Speeds things up if you have a bank toon, or are sending stacks of mats to someone. Lastly, it adds a coordinate system to your world map which is useful when trying to find a quest mob or item.
Outfitter: There are a few of these mods out there, but the names of the others escape me at the moment. They allow you to create “outfits” from your collected gear, and assign them a hotkey (or select them from a pulldown menu) and instantly switch potentially everything you’re wearing. Particularly useful for hybrid classes like druids, paladins, and shaman: you can craft healing/dps/tanking outfits, and with the push of a button or one click, can switch back and forth depending on what role you will serve. The advantage of Outfitter is that it automatically equips things that are situation specific. For example, any time you enter the Eastern or Western Plaguelands, it will automatically equip your Argent Dawn Commission (if it’s in your inventory) so when you go on that run to Scholo or Strat, you can collect the scourgestones that other people miss because they don’t have theirs on. Or, ANY time you mount, it will automatically equip the Carrot or Riding Crop, so you get places as fast as possible, and unequip them when you dismount.
Autoprofit or AutoprofitX: this is a great mod for those of us who make money by picking up EVERYTHING and dumping it on vendors when we visit major cities. It allows you to make a customizable list of items that, if found in your inventory, will automatically be sold to a vendor whenever you talk to someone from whom you can buy and sell items. All gray items are on the list by default, but you can add things you know you’ll never use but pick up in instances like low level food, Wicked Claws, or other white items that have little value at higher levels. This allows you to shift click to loot, pick up everything, and never have to sort through your bags because it all gets emptied out when you repair anyway.
Autorepair: Similar to autoprofit, whenever you visit a vendor who has an option to repair your equipment, it will do so by default. Which means that with autorepair and autoprofit, you can click once on any vendor who can repair, and be fully repaired and have your bags emptied of all useless items in one shot. Highly efficient, and makes yoru turn around time in major cities before getting summoned to do another instance virtually instantaneous.
UGoA/group mods:
There are a few mods which will make you a better group member, and facilitate your finding a group within ugoa.
Group Calendar: This takes a little setting up, so once you have it installed ask someone in game for assistance. It replaces the day/night indicator up by the minimap, and when you click on the clock icon,, it will take you to the mod. After set up, it will link to group information, and allow you to view and post group activities. You can specify instances/raid, limit levels who can attend, sign up for things that are already posted, and view those who have already signed up. Helps immensely with scheduling, and lets everyone know when other people are free. Anyone with access can post information, so feel free to post anything you like.
KTMThreat Meter: This, like damage and healing meters, gives a dynamic visual display of estimated (but highly accurate) levels of threat generated. The value of course is that you can see how much threat you’re generating versus the tank, and stay below it so you don’t steal aggro. Like Cartographer, it displays everyone in the group who has the meter installed, so the more people who have it, the more useful it becomes. Everyone wants to know how much threat they’re generating, rather than finding out the hard way. Some people require it, but we just highly recommend it as extremely useful for all classes.
DeadlyBoss mods: This has information on all high level raid bosses who have gimmicks and tricks that occur every so often. It is entirely passive, and loads automatically when you enter an instance for which it has information. It keeps track of respawn timers, boss abilities, and people who are targeted by various unique spells and abilities. Useful in raids only, so if you’re a low level or don't plan on raiding, this one is completely unnecessary.
Feel free to add useful mods you’ve found or use that have been overlooked here. And remember to check out your class forum for class specific mods.
